How is child support decided?
Child support is based upon statutory guidelines. Factors include income of both parents and time spent with the children. Incidental expenses, such as day care and health insurance costs, are also considered. Attorney John Purcell Jr. recently secured a large victory in a Pennsylvania Supreme Court case. The case involved a sperm donor who was sued for child support and ordered by the trial court to pay. This decision was reversed by the Supreme Court. This is an example of the experience of our firm and our ability to handle complex child support matters.
How is spousal support decided?
Spousal support can be awarded prior to a divorce. Generally, if children are involved, support is set at 30% of the difference in the parents’ net incomes. If children are not involved, support is set at 40% of the net difference in incomes.
